Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge unveiled a portrait of late senior advocate A.K. Sen at the High Court Bar Library Club, paying tribute to a towering figure whose contribution to the legal profession and public life remains embedded in the institutional memory of the Bar.

The ceremony at the Bar Library Club marked an occasion to commemorate Sen’s distinguished legal career and his enduring association with the Calcutta Bar. The unveiling also underscored the tradition of preserving the memory of eminent members of the legal fraternity whose scholarship, advocacy and public service have enriched the profession.

A.K. Sen was regarded as one of the eminent legal minds associated with the Calcutta Bar. His career straddled the courtroom and public life, with his contributions extending beyond legal practice to the broader sphere of constitutional governance and legislative affairs.

Sen also served as Union Law Minister and was closely associated with the Supreme Court Bar Association. His professional legacy has previously been commemorated at the Supreme Court, where Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant unveiled his portrait at the SCBA Library in July this year. On that occasion, Justice Surya Kant described Sen as an accomplished scholar, an advocate of exceptional erudition and a statesman committed to public service.

The Calcutta ceremony assumes particular significance given Sen’s association with the city’s distinguished legal tradition. The Calcutta High Court and its Bar have historically produced an illustrious array of jurists, advocates and public figures who have made significant contributions to Indian jurisprudence and public institutions.
