The Central government on Friday notified the appointment of three judicial officers as Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
The appointments were made by the President of India in exercise of the powers conferred under the Constitution and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India (CJI. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments through a post on X.
The newly-appointed Additional Judges are Sunitha Gandham, Alapati Giridhar and Purushottam Kumar Chintalapudi.
Their appointments come pursuant to the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium during its meeting held on May 4, 2026, after evaluating their suitability for elevation to the High Court.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court presently has a sanctioned strength of 37 judges. As of July 1, 2026, the Court was functioning with 29 judges, leaving eight judicial vacancies. The appointments are expected to strengthen the Court’s judicial capacity and help address the existing shortage of judges.
