The Delhi High Court has issued notice to Jamia Millia Islamia on a public interest litigation alleging religious discrimination in recruitment for outsourced non-teaching posts at the university.

The Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia on Wednesday sought response from the varsity on the petition, which claimed that a disproportionately high number of Muslim candidates were hired for outsourced positions.

According to the plea, the university recruited around 720 Muslim candidates for non-teaching roles against a total of 986 vacancies. The petition alleged that the recruitment process was discriminatory and sought the Court’s intervention.

The matter is currently pending before the High Court.
