The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the immediate removal of allegedly defamatory Instagram posts, reels, stories and related content uploaded by a Singapore-based content creator accusing Indian basketball player Kushal Singh of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct and predatory behaviour towards minors.
The bench of Justice Sachin Datta passed the interim order in a defamation suit filed by Singh against Muskaan Tiwari, holding that she must forthwith take down all content published on her Instagram account or any other account operated or controlled by her that falsely imputes acts of sexual harassment or similar misconduct to the player.
The Court further directed that if Tiwari failed to comply, Singh would be at liberty to approach the concerned social media intermediary, which would be required to ensure compliance with the order.
The direction came after the Court took note of Singh’s contention that Tiwari had been running a sustained social media campaign against him since July 2026 by continuously publishing posts, reels and stories containing false allegations of sexual misconduct. According to Singh, the content had garnered thousands of views and Tiwari had encouraged her followers to tag basketball agencies to amplify the accusations.
Singh, a member of the senior Indian national basketball team who has represented India at international tournaments, including the 2022 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship, argued that the publications had seriously harmed his reputation.
The High Court also issued summons in the suit and sought Tiwari’s response. The defendants have been directed to file their written statements within 30 days of service of summons.
The matter is scheduled to be placed before the Joint Registrar on September 17 for completion of service and pleadings, and will next be heard by the Court on January 13, 2027.
