The Delhi High Court on Thursday raised questions over a plea filed by the Indian National Congress seeking directions related to the sale deed of a bungalow located near Jantar Mantar in the national capital. While expressing reservations about the maintainability of the petition, the court nevertheless sought a response from the Centre on the matter.
During the hearing, the bench observed that the petition appeared to involve issues linked to property ownership and documentation, prompting the court to examine whether the relief sought could be entertained under its jurisdiction. The Congress argued that the matter carried wider public significance and required judicial scrutiny.
The court, however, indicated that it was not immediately convinced by the submissions made on behalf of the party and questioned the legal basis of the plea. Despite its concerns, the bench issued notice to the Central government and asked it to place its stand on record before the next date of hearing.
The dispute pertains to a bungalow situated in the Jantar Mantar area, a prominent zone in central Delhi known for housing political offices and government-linked properties. The case is expected to come up for further consideration after the Centre files its reply.
