Supreme Court forms 23 Vacation Benches for summer break from June 1

The Supreme Court has notified the composition of 23 Vacation Benches that will function during the Court’s summer vacation period from June 1 to July 12, 2026.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant constituted the Benches to hear urgent matters and miscellaneous proceedings during the partial court working days scheduled throughout the vacation period.

As per a notification issued by the Supreme Court Registry on Monday, four Benches will function from June 1 to 7. These include Benches comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice PB Varale, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Aravind Kumar, Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, and Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Augustine George Masih.

Three Benches will sit from June 8 to 14, comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Atul S Chandurkar, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice PB Varale, and Justice Augustine George Masih and Justice Vijay Bishnoi.

From June 15 to 21, four Benches will function, including a Bench headed by the CJI, along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi. Other Benches during this period will comprise Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Vipul M Pancholi, Justice SVN Bhatti and Justice Atul S Chandurkar, and Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice Vijay Bishnoi.

From June 22 to 28, four Benches will hear matters. These include Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice NV Anjaria, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Sandeep Mehta, and Justice SVN Bhatti and Justice Vipul M Pancholi.

Four additional Benches have been constituted for the period from June 29 to July 5. These include Justice MM Sundresh and Justice K Vinod Chandran, Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice Manmohan, Justice N Kotiswar Singh and Justice NV Anjaria, and Justice R Mahadevan and Justice Alok Aradhe.

For the final phase of the vacation period, from July 6 to 12, the Registry notified four Benches comprising Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice R Mahadevan, Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Manmohan, Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe, and Justice N Kotiswar Singh and Justice K Vinod Chandran.

The notification further stated that the Supreme Court Registry will remain functional from 10 am to 5 pm on all working days during the partial court working period, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and notified holidays. However, July 11 has been designated as a working Saturday.

The Registry also clarified that Group-C non-clerical staff will function from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm during the vacation period. Regular court functioning and normal roster operations are scheduled to resume from July 13, 2026.
